Chuseok Break

Image
Starting about noon on September 29, I have been on break for a week. The name of the holiday is Chuseok. From what I understand, it's the harvest festival and a time for families. There are 3 official holiday days - today, tomorrow, and Friday. The first 3 days of next week do not have classes, but the teachers and staff must use vacation days to take them off. Different than what I'm used to. I used to just not getting paid at all. I'm ok. It's just odd because I'm new and forced to take these days because I don't have a ride to the school. Vacation accrues per month. I have only 1 so far, so they will take 2 away from future accrual. Odd but whatever. The Bicycle  I've been trying to piecemeal put this thing together. I was sent the wrong assembly box, so I've had to look up directions and buy tools. Today I found out the valve for the tire is different than the regular tire pump, so I had to go out and buy another pump that ha...

It's hard for me to write when I'm not feeling well about things. I've been ok physically except for today. I have headaches off and of due to the air and allergies. However, today I have had one to the right of my nose, deep in the sinuses. Then I have had one over my right eyebrow. I know it's allergies but I don't want to take medicine. I also don't want to complain, so I shall move on.  I don't want to complain. I don't want to be negative outwardly, because I feel negative inwardly. I don't think that people should be allowed to teach unless they have done some sort of training beforehand. I believe most US public schools require certification before they allow teachers in a classroom. That's smart. How can you give a quality education otherwise? I am not trained except for this little certificate in teaching English as a foreign language. I feel this a lot of days recently. I'm not delivering a quality education because I'm not qual...

Pictures.  Hard to write things since I started working. It's been a major time of adjustment. I understand the whole culture thing. I'm highly aware of this. I think my concern mostly rides with my health. I've fought so long to maintain my health and prevention of any and all of the cancers that I'm at a high risk for. Praying that I haven't just simply thrown all that way in coming to this country. Something has got my throat. It's the outer part and not a sore throat. It's swollen. I'm guessing the thyroid either from something in the food I'm missing or something in the air. It's late. Going hiking in the a.m.

The lady who drives us to school likes to hike on Saturday morning. I went with her and her husband this morning. Great relief to me because this was a part of my routine for four years in South Carolina.  I don't know how far we walked, but I do know that it was at least an hour. Parts of the park were closed due to typhoons coming in. Not sure if prevention, protection or what since trees and such come down during these storms. I experienced a strong wind and rain with one this past Thursday. Nothing shuts down here except if you do something involving a boat. I managed to prevent my umbrella from flipping opposite except for one time. I stood under a shelter waiting for my ride and watched as the wind pushed the rain so hard that it was creating air foils over the cars.  This measures your body size. The space all the way to the right roughly translates that you're an alien if you can only fit through here. ...
