hello

Hi. I haven't felt like writing anything good so I have not published anything. My experience has gone from bad to worse. I'm more inclined to grab my hair and cry as I think about all that I've been through. Nothing to kill me physically. Just enough to bury my willpower and motivation to keep going. No place of peace here. I will be leaving either August 31 or September 2. I know that going back to my country won't fix this but at least I have a better chance at having a little, tiny bit of peace.

Riding into Sejong today - February 6

I don't know why the camera has to do the mirror image thing. It would be nice to be able to capture when it is selfie side the correct way. I think there is a filter on because my face looks really soft. A little panorama. I need to learn the name of the river. I think it's a real river and not a man made waterway coming from a reservoir. Pretty cool looking bridge. Some engineering and architectural sights to behold in this place.  As long as my ears are protected, I'm good. I wind up with bar earaches and ear infections if the wind gets to my ears. These ear muffs look almost like a headband. They are fluffy on the inner part. There is a stiff wire inside that you can manipulate. Mask also helps keep the face from getting cold. Found a book store. Only section I saw in English had all ESL books. I really like teaching little ones so my eyes immediately spotted this. Sign in Un...

Finally realized not to add the fillings until after the base of the omelette. Cooked the onion, colored bell peppers, and mushroom. Set them aside and then cooked the egg flat. When it was more than half done, added the veggies that were sauteed in coconut oil, salt, pepper, and (my standard) turmeric.  My workspace. Enjoying the kindergarten class. Is it child labor to have them color the shapes? I'm going to cut them out later, laminate, and use them for learning activities. That class is fun. Just have to move and be speaking English with them. Of course, what I say and do is very purposeful but it's fun at the same time. Sejong City Hall - used the panorama setting with the camera vertical to get this picture. The angle was too tall and too wide for regular pictures. Panorama has other uses beyond the 360 degree view.

January 23-24

January 23rd Ikea! Looks very similar to the US Ikeas. I guess they're designed pretty much the same with cultural and legal tweaks to make for local standards like kimchee rice with Swedish meatballs. Office setup the way I imagine my brother would have his one day. View from my business apartment - Still undeveloped Sejong. My breakfast January 24th Smart City Sign on Daejeon bus stops Why I took the bus to the next city Divine burgers...first burger I've had in over 5 months. It was wrapped in lettuce instead of bread. Ok. Next time I'll cut it into a salad. I think the flavors will go much better. Missed mustard. Fries were decent.  Fries bag...

Going to try again to write... Tomorrow I escape. My time of leave has been granted for once a month. I can walk the plank and jump onto the sandy beach without fear of the crocodiles. Well, in reality I'm escaping the crocodiles. I have to do this at least once a month. It helps to renew strength of mind. The renewal doesn't last very long but it is there.  My writing may seem disjointed at times. I'm not sorry for that. It is necessary to be perfectly honest so that I do not mention any particulars. I write irregularly because of the stress I have been going through. It is not that I do not want to write. It is because I do not want to be negative all the time. This little valley is where I currently live. It is a town out in the country. There is no major stores here - just groceries and shops. It's not a bad place to live if you're a local.  My mountaintop rest I like to hike. I typically hike alone for various reasons that ac...

thoughts

I didn't want to turn this into one of those blogs where it gets opinionated or inflated with nonsense. However, I seem to have an ongoing problem with no one here to really talk to. Throughout my adult life, I've had people I can turn to as sounding boards to check my thoughts, reactions, and behaviors. I don't have that here or, at least, not yet. I also use writing as a way to deal with stress and anxiety. I don't do well with medication, so I need to have cognitive ways of getting things out. I want to use this blog in part to write observations that I would talk with certain people about. (Of course, I'm going to omit much, because this is a public blog.) These will be random at best. These will probably also be culturally based norms, because there are differences in every culture - some good and some not so good. What I am think about today: Doors, windows, space, and hunch backs Throughout everyday, I find my peace interrupted by slamming of doors. It doesn...

Chuseok Break

Image
Starting about noon on September 29, I have been on break for a week. The name of the holiday is Chuseok. From what I understand, it's the harvest festival and a time for families. There are 3 official holiday days - today, tomorrow, and Friday. The first 3 days of next week do not have classes, but the teachers and staff must use vacation days to take them off. Different than what I'm used to. I used to just not getting paid at all. I'm ok. It's just odd because I'm new and forced to take these days because I don't have a ride to the school. Vacation accrues per month. I have only 1 so far, so they will take 2 away from future accrual. Odd but whatever. The Bicycle  I've been trying to piecemeal put this thing together. I was sent the wrong assembly box, so I've had to look up directions and buy tools. Today I found out the valve for the tire is different than the regular tire pump, so I had to go out and buy another pump that ha...
